Unsung Hero
Dominique Dawes flips and turns on the balance beam as she tries not to fall. She made her roundoff layout of the floor and her giant off of the bars. Dominique won an Olympic gold medal with the U.S women gymnastics team as well as an individual bronze medal, becoming the first African American to win an individual medal in women’s gymnastics. One quote that she would always say was “don’t set your goals to be a star, set your goals to be the best you can and go from there.” Dominique Dawes is a retired gymnastic athlete and she did gymnastics for 10 years of her life. Dominique is known for being a three-time olympian and the first African American to be able to compete in women's gymnastics. She is considered a hero because she has many different traits that define her as a hero.
